  • What We Learned From The Snow

Hello to all.  Quite a lot of snow left around here.  But there is a lesson to be learned regardless of the situation.  I’m not just talking about getting to the store faster so there is actually a loaf of bread left and a bottle of water.  Of course I had a full tank of gas and my endless supply of candles and batteries.  Not sure why I bought batteries but that’s we we Baltimorians do. We STOCK up!

Of course our street wasn’t plowed and in some spots the street entrances were plowed shut and there was no way an emergency vehicle could have gotten through.  So here’s what we did.  All of us went outside and removed the snow together. We loaned each other snowblowers and made sure the elderly could get out or were checked on.  When a bunch of us cleared a part of the street that neighbor called everyone on the block to say he could get out and wanted to know if anyone needed anything. Food- prescriptions- a ride to the doctor- and of course batteries and toilet paper.

It wasn’t a lot of fun but some of the kids shoveling got out a radio to blast some tunes.  We set up a heater in our garage for folks to warm up while shoveling. Neighbors stopped to talk to other neighbors and of course jokes were flying around and we actually had a good time during a cold stressful event.  I am so proud to live where I live.  I am grateful that I am surrounded by my neighbors even though we probably know our dogs names better than each others.  It was truly a blessing to be a part of such a big ol mess.  I learned once again that there is peace in  knowing that my neighbors have my back and thankful that they know I have theirs.  What did you learn?
